Danson Cheats Death! Health scare inspires life changes for Cheers star

In a recent National Enquirer feature, I commented on actor Ted Danson’s reflections following a recent health scare that led him to reevaluate his priorities and daily routine.

As we grow older, physical health and emotional health become increasingly connected. Major life events, grief, stress, and depression can all have measurable effects on the body. In medicine, we know that chronic stress can suppress the immune system and make people more vulnerable to illness.

What struck me most about Mr. Danson’s response was not the medical event itself, but the perspective it inspired. Rather than focusing solely on recovery, he chose to make meaningful changes in how he approaches life, relationships, and personal well-being.

Many people wait for a health crisis before reassessing their habits. Ideally, that reflection should happen much earlier. Managing stress, maintaining strong social connections, and caring for both physical and emotional health are essential parts of healthy aging.

Good health is not simply the absence of disease. It is the ability to continue living with purpose, curiosity, and engagement throughout life.
