Shirley Sure Has Changed!

In a recent National Enquirer* feature, I commented on public discussion surrounding actress Shirley MacLaine’s appearance and the visible effects of aging.

One of the most noticeable changes that occurs as we grow older involves the gradual loss of collagen and supporting tissue beneath the skin. Over time, these structural components diminish, altering facial contours and contributing to changes in texture, volume, and appearance.

These changes are a normal part of the aging process, although they occur at different rates from person to person. Genetics, sun exposure, nutrition, overall health, and lifestyle habits all play a role in how the skin and underlying tissues age.

Modern medicine offers a variety of cosmetic and dermatologic treatments, but no intervention can completely stop the biological processes associated with aging.

Ultimately, healthy aging is not measured by appearance alone. Maintaining mobility, cognitive function, independence, and overall quality of life remains far more important than preserving a youthful look.
